Three people were arrested on November 4 during the monthly peace vigil at Vandenberg AFB main gate.  Dennis Apel again was cited for a “ban and bar” violation. Two other vigilers in the designated protest area were arrested for not identifying themselves with ID.  One, Bud Booth, 84 year old veteran of WWII Army Air Corps, and a long-time peace activist at Vandenberg, was placed in metal handcuffs and while being searched was grabbed at the center part of the handcuffs and swung around, tearing his shirt and skin on his arm. Paramedics were summoned to administer first aid.

Send letters of support to Bud at, P.O. Box 464, Los Olivos, CA 93441

Also write to base commander Col. David Buck, 30 SW/PA, Building 12,000, Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA 93437-6267

Thank you for reporting this to the online lists, including
Hopedance, and for referring Bud to Catherine Swenson.
Bud should be supported and encouraged to pursue legal action based on the base’s abusive tactics on non-violent activists.

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation will have a press conference in Santa Barbara before the launch. Santa Barbara residents may wish to attend this event. Call NAPF at 805 965 3443 to find out when and where it will be.

Please join me at the front gate 11:55 pm on November 17 to protest the ICBM launch. I am asking protesters to provide ID so we can clarify the legal issues and contest the base policy of lifetime ban and bar practice. This practice has NEVER been reviewed by a civilian court . Of course people can do whatever they wish but this is a request for this protest only. Who else is planning to be there?

Unreal. Mistreating an 84-year-old man. I like the idea of the signs. Thank you for being involved, everyone who is. We SHALL OVERCOME, hopefully someday soon, in the meantime, WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP THE CAUSE FOR PEACE, NO MATTER WHAT.

I went by the front gate where the protesters were being arrested. I did not witness any of the Security Forces personnel treating any body in a rough manner. I can assure you that they were following protocol by calling the paramedics.

I think it’s sad that protesters feel the need to take away valuable resources from the base when we are fighting a much greater enemy.

I think you are all ridiculous for protesting in the first place. all you are is a media grabber. your opinion has no effect on the governments decisions. there is a reason they are in charge and people that carry signs around and walk in a circle are not.

I beg to differ with you. We are not “media grabbers.” We are being faithful to our Christian faith, the call to be human, which calls us to first and foremost to love God and all human beings, as every person is made in God’s image and likeness. This leads one to reject the idolatrous and blasphemous ways of empire; to reject and stand against all that glorifies death, all that serves the purpose of death and destruction. God calls us to “choose life.”

You are correct. Our opinion and our protests (by ourselves) have little, if any, effect on government policy. However, first and foremost, as stated above, our intent is to be faithful to Gospel principles, not necessarily successful in changing anything, though this certainly is the ultimate goal. The goal of disarmament, which is to place our trust in God alone, as our national motto (falsely) states, will come when our nation collapses under economic ruin because we spend nearly all our resources on the ways of death and destruction, while the needs of the people and the nation’s infrastructure are neglected. It is utterly impossible for this nation to continue spending trillions on wars and expect to meet the needs of the people. Every empire in human history tried it before us and collapsed. When we fall, then the people will come together and join us and demand that the money used for weapons, wars, death and destruction, now be used for the purpose of life.

Protesting and resistance is the human thing to do in the midst of the inhuman, and anti-human diabolical madness of war and preparation for war.
